Dataset: Premature deaths due to exposure to fine particulate matter PM2.5_superseded (2005-2021)

Contact point
European Environment Agency (sdi@eea.europa.eu)

This indicator provides information on the number of deaths in the EU-27 Member States attributable to long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) since the year 2005. PM2.5 are particulates whose diameter is less than 2.5 micrometres and which can be carried deep into the lungs where they can cause inflammation and exacerbate the condition of people suffering heart and lung diseases.

Dataset: Net greenhouse gas emissions of the Land use, Land use change and Forestry (LULUCF) sector_superseded (1990-2022)

Contact point
European Environment Agency (sdi@eea.europa.eu)

This indicator comprises historical net emissions estimates from the LULUCF sector. The LULUCF data covers the annual fluxes of CO2, CH4 and N2O from all managed land in the EU. Emissions and removals are reported by six land use categories: forest land, cropland, grassland, wetlands, settlements and other lands and CO2 fluxes due to changes in the pool of carbon stored in harvested wood products. ... Dataset: Bathing waters with excellent quality (2000-2022)

Contact point
European Environment Agency (sdi@eea.europa.eu)

This is the metadata that refers to data showing the number and proportion of coastal and inland bathing waters with excellent quality. The indicator (under development) is based on microbiological parameters (Intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli). The Bathing Water Directive requires Member States to identify and assess the quality of all inland and marine bathing waters and to classify th ... (read more)

Copernicus Land Monitoring Service helpdesk (JRC-Copernicus-Land@ec.europa.eu)

The Water Level is defined as the height, in meters above the geoid, of the reflecting surface of continental water bodies. It is observed by space radar altimeters that measure the time it takes for radar pulses to reach the ground targets, directly below the spacecraft (nadir position), and return. Hence, only water bodies located along the satellite's ground tracks can be monitored, with a qual ... (read more)

Dataset: Pan-European Soil Erosion Risk Assessment (PESERA), Jan. 2004

Soil erosion is a natural process, occurring over geological time, and indeed it is a process that is essential for soil formation in the first place. With respect to soil degradation, most concerns about erosion are related to accelerated erosion, where the natural rate has been significantly increased mostly by human activity. Soil erosion by water is a widespread problem throughout Europe. PESE ... (read more)

Dataset: CO2 Intensity of Electricity Generation

Electricity generation gives rise to negative impacts on the environment and human health throughout all stages of its life-cycle. To date, power generation remains the largest GHG-emitting sector in Europe. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is by far the most commonly-emitted GHG across the sector, being a product of combustion processes. An almost complete decarbonisation of the electricity sector is needed ... (read more)
